The Election Commission has decided to hold the local body elections in Punjab in the last week of April 2023.

According to media reports, a meeting of the Election Commision was held under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. Secretary Election Commision gave a briefing in the meeting, Secretary Election Commision said that the term of local bodies of Punjab has expired on January 1, 2022.

The Election Commision had to do the work of constituencies twice to conduct the local elections, the local rules were changed twice. In the meeting, the Election Commision has decided to hold local body elections in Punjab in the last week of April 2023. It should be remembered that in recent days, a hearing was held in the Election Commission regarding the Local Government Elections of Punjab, Special Secretary Election Commission and Chief Secretary Punjab Election Commision appeared in the Election Commision.

The Special Secretary said that constituencies were done twice in Punjab, now it will be done for the third time. The Chief Election Commissioner said that holding municipal constituencies for the third time in Punjab is not a joke, if elections can be held on the old constituencies then release the schedule, no government wants to hold local elections. The Chief Election Commissioner instructed the Secretary Election Commision to write a letter to the Supreme Court again, now the Election Commision will instruct the Chief Secretary and pass the order.
