Aitzaz Ahsan complains about the leadership of the People’s Party

During an interview on the khabristan News program “Khabar,” senior jurist Aitzaz Ahsan expressed his disappointment regarding the lack of support from his colleagues and the leadership of the People’s Party.

Ahsan stated that there is a faction in Lahore that has opposed him in local politics. He emphasized the sadness he feels due to the absence of support from his colleagues and the party leadership. Ahsan also mentioned that family and ideology remain unchanged, and even Latif Khosa has raised doubts about the leadership.

In relation to the case challenging the trials of civilians in military courts in the Supreme Court, Aitzaz Ahsan highlighted that Justices Qazi Faiz Isa and Sardar Tariq, who withdrew from the 9-member bench, were urged not to leave the bench due to the significance of the matter and the court’s reputation. They were also informed that the institution was under external attacks, thus it was essential to resolve their differences. However, they did not agree to this request.

Ahsan further stated that they had advocated for a larger bench to address this matter, and the court had formed one. However, after the bench was dissolved, and the new 7-member bench was constituted, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah inquired if anyone had any objections to his inclusion, to which no objections were expressed.

Aitzaz Ahsan expressed his concern over the lack of shame and decorum in inter-party and inter-institutional dynamics. He criticized government members for their behavior, alleging that they engage in daily attacks and use offensive language against judges. Specifically, he mentioned that Rana Sanaullah and Khawaja Asif are targeting the judges involved in the morning.

Ahsan referred to the past and recalled the pressure exerted by Nawaz Sharif on Justice Sajjad Ali Shah in 1997, which is a matter of record. He highlighted the isolation faced by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah during that period, suggesting that Nawaz Sharif’s political approach has been consistent, while Shahbaz Sharif is currently acting as a proxy.
