An Instagram teaser for the film “Rawalpindi Express – A Shoaib Akhtar Biopic,” centered around the life of former fast-bowler Shoaib Akhtar, was unveiled on Tuesday. However, there had been a prior decision by Shoaib Akhtar to distance himself from the movie’s production due to reported legal disputes with the filmmakers. Actor Mirza Gohar Rasheed has taken on the role of portraying the cricketing legend, replacing Umair Jaswal, who had previously withdrawn from the project.
In January, Shoaib Akhtar announced his disassociation from the movie and its creators. This move was executed through his management and legal teams, and he cited “disagreements” and “contractual violations” as reasons for his decision. He also cautioned against the unauthorized use of his name and life story, hinting at the possibility of taking legal action.
The biopic’s announcement took place in July of the preceding year, with Shoaib Akhtar displaying initial enthusiasm for the project. However, he later communicated, “Regrettably, I want to inform you all that after careful consideration, I’ve chosen to not be associated with the film ‘Rawalpindi Express’ and its makers. I terminated the agreement with the assistance of my management and legal team.”
The movie has been crafted by Muhammad Faraz Qaiser and produced by Kafeel Anwar. Among the cast are Faran Tahir, Saleem Mairaj, Raheela Agha, Salman Shahid, Shafqat Cheema, and Usman Peerzada.
