Dr. Umar Saif, Pakistan’s IT Minister, confirms plans to bring PayPal and Stripe to the country.


Dr. Umar Saif, the Minister for Information Technology in the interim government, has officially affirmed the federal government’s commitment to bringing PayPal and Stripe to Pakistan. Additionally, there are plans to create specialized co-working spaces tailored for freelancers. This announcement comes after a meeting between Dr. Saif and Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, during which they endorsed a comprehensive project aimed at fostering the IT industry.

Dr. Saif emphasized that by addressing current challenges, the IT sector’s export potential could soar to $10 billion. To this end, the Prime Minister directed various government entities, including those responsible for finance, commerce, energy, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), to engage in consultations.

Highlighting the crucial role of the IT sector in achieving economic stability through project collaboration, Dr. Saif outlined ongoing efforts to provide training to young individuals, thereby enhancing service quality in this field.

Furthermore, Dr. Saif disclosed that the government has initiated plans to train 200,000 IT professionals through a partnership between the industry and academia, with the objective of increasing IT exports by $5 billion.
