PM Kakar to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping today


In Islamabad, Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar is scheduled to hold a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing today, focusing on discussions related to their bilateral relations.

This visit by the caretaker prime minister coincides with his participation in the Third Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation, where he has been actively engaged.

During the day, the premier is also set to have a meeting with the Minister for International Department of the Chinese Communist Party. Subsequently, he will depart for his visit to Urumqi.

Earlier today, the caretaker prime minister had fruitful discussions with Chairman Minmentals Weng Zuliang and Chairman China Metallurgical Group Corporation Chen Jianuang in Beijing. In these conversations, the prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to providing attractive investment opportunities in the mining and metallurgy sectors, with the potential for high productivity returns.

PM Kakar informed the delegation about the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), designed to promote foreign investment within the country. The Chinese business leaders expressed a strong interest in investing in Pakistan, indicating their positive response to these investment initiatives.

Moreover, Prime Minister Kakar shared that Pakistan has successfully completed more than 50 projects valued at $25 billion as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This flagship initiative, integrated into China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), has seen substantial investments of over $65 billion for various infrastructure development projects, including roads and railways in Pakistan.

The premier emphasized that significant progress had been made, with the imminent inauguration of a substantial airport at the southwestern Gwadar port, financed by Chinese contributions as part of the CPEC.

Furthermore, clean energy projects under the CPEC are on track for completion within the next four to five years, contributing to Pakistan’s sustainable energy future.

Separately, on the sidelines of the Third Belt and Road Forum, Prime Minister Kakar held discussions with Chinese Premier Li Qiang. The leaders jointly decided to bolster high-level dialogue and engagement across multiple domains, encompassing politics, economics, education, science and technology, culture, and people-to-people interactions.

Accompanied by a delegation of ministers and senior officials, the two leaders reaffirmed the longstanding and unwavering friendship between Pakistan and China.
