The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has challenged the acquittal of PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi in the ephedrine quota case in the Supreme Court, as reported on Wednesday.
In October 18, the Lahore High Court (LHC) division bench had acquitted Hanif Abbasi in this case.
However, the ANF has sought additional time from the apex court to prepare and obtain relevant documents pertaining to the case.
The Supreme Court Registrar office has granted the ANF a period of 14 days to do so.
Prior to his acquittal, the trial court had sentenced Abbasi to life imprisonment in the ephedrine quota case.
The LHC division bench, comprised of Justice Aalia Neelum and Justice Asjad Javed Ghural, overturned the life imprisonment and acquitted him.
Hanif Abbasi, who was arrested just four days prior to the 2018 general election in Pakistan, was a candidate for NA-60 Rawalpindi constituency.
In 2012, the ANF registered a case against Abbasi and others under various sections of the Control of Narcotics Substances (CNS) Act, accusing them of misusing 500kg of ephedrine.
