Jeff Bezos, the billionaire founder of Amazon, recently stated that he intends to donate the “majority” of his wealth.
Jeff Bezos’ remarks were made in a meeting with CNN on Saturday, when he said he intends to utilize his wealth to battle environmental change and to help cultural “unifiers.” According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bezos is worth approximately $124 billion.
Bezos talked to CNN but didn’t go into too much detail about his plans. Instead, he talked about his plan to give generously to people who work to fight “division” in American politics and public life. No timetable or explicit dollar sum was given.
“The hard part is figuring out how to do it in a levered way,” Bezos told CNN.
Bezos and his partner, Lauren Sanchez, also gave Dolly Parton a $100 million grant to give to charities of her choice. In 2021, Bezos gave the same amount to chef José Andrés and CNN contributor Van Jones.
