Issuance of orders to crack down on vehicles and units that emit smoke.
Rawalpindi has once again been covered in hazardous smog, which has made pulmonary diseases worse and irritated the eyes, nose, and throat.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been directed to intensify efforts against smoke-emitting vehicles, factories, and crushing units after the Punjab Ministry of Environmental Protection issued an alert regarding high-risk smog entering Pakistan from India.
According to the EPA, strong winds are bringing the most hazardous form of Indian smog into Punjab, affecting the province’s air quality and Rawalpindi is particular.
Official sources claim that air pollution has risen to a dangerous level in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and other Punjabi districts.
The air pollution index has increased to 152 in Islamabad, 154 in Rawalpindi, 110 in Murree, 112 in Chakwal, and 112 in Attock at the moment. An alarmingly high air pollution index of more than 150 is considered to be dangerous.
72 vehicles in the Rawalpindi district that emit smoke were reportedly impounded by employees of the Regional Transport Authority, according to sources. The EPA sealed nine crushing units and 11 brick kilns that produced smoke. Additionally, at least six individuals were arrested for lighting garbage on fire in various locations.
They also said the agriculture department registered cases against eight farmers for setting fire to the residue of crops in the suburbs of the garrison city.
According to the meteorological department, air pollution is likely to improve after the expected rain from Friday to Sunday.
According to representatives of the district administration, there is a possibility that the garrison city will also face severe smog this year, just as it has in the past.
To keep an eye on the district’s factories, brick kilns, and automobiles that emit smoke, the district administration has set up special anti-smog teams. The anti-smog squads have been assigned the responsibility of ensuring that hospital waste is disposed of appropriately, and the burning of any kind of plastic waste in the district will be strictly prohibited.
Due to the fact that smog and pollution are bad for people’s health and can cause serious illnesses in the lungs, heart, and brain, separate counters have been set up in each of Rawalpindi’s three affiliated hospitals for the purpose of checking patients who are afflicted with them.
In order to take action against vehicles that emit smoke, the Regional Transport Authority is collaborating with the city traffic police and the motorway police.
