Hundreds of shops were burnt to ashes after a fire broke out in the market of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.
According to foreign media, fire engulfed 3,000 clothing shops in Bongo Bazaar and 3 adjacent commercial areas in the early morning of Tuesday, around 600 firefighters are trying to control the fire.
The spokesman of the Bangladesh Army says that 1 helicopter of the Air Force is also involved in the effort to put out the fire, but there is no immediate report of any casualty.
Aerial footage from a helicopter showed hundreds of people watching the fire from a nearby overpass.
Shopkeepers in the market say that thousands of shops have been burnt down and our everything has been destroyed. Distressed shop owners told reporters that the fire left us destitute a few weeks before Eid.
Akhtar Hussain, a shop owner, said that I had invested about one million taka to stock the shop before Eid, but now it has all turned into ashes, how will I recover from this loss?
The report said there were crores worth of ready-made garments in the market, with most of the shops having excess stock due to Eid.
