According to reports, Saudi authorities have issued a warning regarding the rights of elderly individuals in the country. They have emphasized that any mistreatment or abuse of these rights can result in a one-year prison sentence and a fine of 500,000 Saudi riyals.

In recognition of World Elderly Day, celebrated on June 15, Saudi Arabia has initiated an awareness campaign to educate the public about the rights of the elderly.
Currently, the elderly population in Saudi Arabia constitutes 6 percent of the total population, and it is projected that by the year 2030, this percentage will increase to 15 percent, reflecting a significant demographic shift.
In the Kingdom, a majority of government institutions, specifically 81 percent, ensure that appropriate facilities are available for the elderly. Moreover, the rights of the elderly are explicitly defined in Saudi law.
According to the law, elderly individuals have the right to reside with their families, and any unauthorized disposal of their wealth is strictly prohibited without their consent.
The Saudi legal system also imposes strict penalties for elder abuse, including a one-year prison sentence and a fine of 500,000 Saudi riyals, as a means to protect the rights and well-being of the elderly.
