Leicester slip-up allows Ipswich to close on Championship lead

LONDON: Leicester’s lead at the top of the Championship narrowed to a single point as they conceded a stoppage-time equalizer, settling for a 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday. In contrast, Ipswich secured a 3-1 victory over Millwall.

Facing the bottom team at Hillsborough, Leicester took the lead with Abdul Fatawu’s goal in the first half. However, Jeff Hendrick’s 93rd-minute strike secured Wednesday a valuable point, marking their seventh in 18 games.

Ipswich faced no such challenge, comfortably securing a 3-0 lead by halftime at Portman Road with goals from Conor Chaplin, Massimo Luongo, and Nathan Broadhead.

Leeds climbed back to third place, trailing the top two by seven points, despite conceding an early goal against Swansea. Joel Piroe, facing his former club, quickly leveled the score, and goals from Georginio Rutter and Dan James secured a 3-1 victory for Leeds.

Southampton moved up to fourth place with a 1-0 win over Bristol City, courtesy of Kyle Walker-Peters’ lone goal.

Blackburn, just two points outside the playoffs, defeated Wayne Rooney’s Birmingham 4-2. Rooney, the former Manchester United and England captain, has recorded only one win in seven games as the manager of Birmingham.

Huddersfield secured a 2-1 win at Sunderland, moving six points clear of the relegation zone.
