In Rawalpindi, plans are underway to establish two vegetable and fruit markets in Gujjar Khan and Doulatala, aiming to reduce the city’s reliance on Islamabad’s markets. Rawalpindi Division Commissioner, Laiqat Ali Chatha, announced the initiative, noting that Rawalpindi has traditionally depended on Islamabad’s markets, leading to increased prices for vegetables and fruits. With the establishment of not just one, but two markets, the city aims to address this dependency that has persisted for years.
Following the recent establishment of a vegetable and fruit market in Rawat, additional markets are now being set up in Doulatala and Gujar Khan. Commissioner Chatha has instructed officials to accelerate the development work for these markets. Furthermore, he directed the assistant commissioner to relocate the unauthorized fruit and vegetable market at Guyana Mor in Gujar Khan to the Hailian area.
