A significant fire erupted in furniture shops within an apartment near Karachi’s Ayesha Manzil on Wednesday, resulting in the tragic loss of three lives, as reported by Express News.
Firefighters, deploying at least 12 fire tenders, a snorkel, and a bowser, worked tirelessly for several hours to successfully extinguish the flames. SSP Central Faisal Abdullah Chachar confirmed the unfortunate deaths, with ongoing efforts to search the building, expressing concern about the possibility of more individuals inside. Preliminary investigations indicate that a short circuit caused the fire, resulting in damage to numerous vehicles parked nearby.
The Pakistan Navy, responding promptly, dispatched fire tenders and personnel to assist in controlling the fire, as per the spokesperson of the Pakistan Navy. Sources reported that goods worth millions of rupees were reduced to ashes, with shop owners making desperate attempts to salvage their belongings.
Emergency measures were imposed on water hydrants near Sakhi Hassan and NIPA. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori took notice of the incident, directing Karachi Commissioner to prioritize the safety of individuals within the building and employ all available resources to bring the fire under control. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab acknowledged the diligent efforts of the fire brigade and emphasized the administration’s commitment to preventing further fire spread.
Notably, Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar promptly directed authorities to contain the fire swiftly. He instructed the commissioner and deputy commissioner to monitor the situation, urging the evacuation of people to safety. Additional fire brigade units were directed to the incident site for prompt action in extinguishing the fire.
