In a significant development reported on Friday, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Istehkaam Pakistan Party (IPP) have reached an understanding on seat adjustments ahead of the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8, according to sources quoted by Express News.
Insiders revealed that a meeting took place between IPP’s patron-in-chief and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif at the latter’s residence in Model Town, Lahore. Rana Sanaullah and Ayaz Sadiq represented PML-N, while Aun Chaudhry represented IPP. While a foundational agreement on seat adjustments has been reached, further discussions among party leaders will determine the precise number of seats where adjustments might occur. Sources suggest that seat adjustments are being considered in various regions, including Lahore, Sahiwal, Lodhran, and Rahim Yar Khan.
This development follows a similar seat adjustment understanding between the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and PML-N. The agreement was reached in a meeting between PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif. The meeting, lasting about 40 minutes without media interaction, sparked rumors of PML-Q seeking around ten national and a dozen provincial seats from PML-N. However, these rumors were promptly dispelled by Shujaat’s son, Shafay Hussain, who clarified an existing agreement between the parties, involving four National Assembly and eight provincial assembly seats. He further clarified that the main purpose of the PML-N leaders’ visit was to inquire about the veteran politician’s health.
