On Monday, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) reported three fatalities and one injury resulting from a gunfire incident at its office in Karachi’s Machar Colony, as per Express News.
In contrast to MQM-P’s assertions, SSP Keamari Arif Aslam Rao clarified that the incident stemmed from a personal dispute over land and lacked any political affiliations. He detailed an ongoing conflict between two groups as the cause, emphasizing the absence of any political party office at the location. The primary suspect, Nasir Pathan, and an accomplice have been apprehended, with one of the deceased identified as Raees. The bodies were transported to a hospital for requisite medico-legal procedures.
Disputing the police’s account, the MQM-P spokesperson contended that the gunfire occurred at one of their election offices during a visit by a team of national and provincial assembly candidates. The spokesperson accused armed individuals associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of involvement.
Senior Deputy Convener of MQM-P, Anis Qaimkhani, strongly condemned the attack, attributing it to “terrorists from the PPP” under the leadership of their local party head. Qaimkhani disclosed that MQM-P workers, Osman and Malik Fayyaz, were actively engaged in the election campaign when the incident unfolded.
In response to the incident, IG Sindh Riffat Mukhtar directed the SSP to furnish a comprehensive report and urged prompt action to apprehend the culprits and ensure justice.
