A discussion took place between Firdous Shamim Naqvi, a member of the PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) party, and Election Commission officials who were brought to the Arts Council from jail on a production order for the election of the Mayor of Karachi.

 Firdous Shamim

According to ARY News, three arrested UC (Union Council) chairmen of PTI were brought to the Arts Council to cast their votes in the elections for Karachi’s Mayor and Deputy Mayor. During this event, Firdous Shamim Naqvi engaged in a conversation with the Election Commission officials.

Firdous Shamim Naqvi asked the Election Commission officials if he, being a member of the Sindh Assembly, could take the oath of the UC Chairman without leaving his position as an MPA (Member of Provincial Assembly). He was informed that he cannot cast his vote in that capacity.

Firdous Shamim Naqvi stated to the Election Commission officials that he has thoroughly read the constitution and nowhere is it mentioned what they were asserting.

A prison van is also available to deal with any situation during the mayoral election.

It is important to mention that besides Firdous Shamim Naqvi, the arrested UC Chairman Malik Muhammad and Muhammad Faraz have also been brought to the Arts Council.
