The world’s most expensive cow, located in Brazil, is valued at over one billion 24 crores in Pakistani rupees. Pakistanis, particularly those who celebrated Eid-ul-Azha recently, may be familiar with high-priced cows costing millions or even crores. However, the price of the Nellore breed of cows in Brazil surpasses all expectations. It’s enough to leave people astounded. Imagine, this single cow is worth more than 4 million US dollars, equivalent to around one billion 24 million Pakistani rupees. It’s truly mind-boggling!
The cow is so incredibly expensive that only a select few in Brazil can afford to purchase it as a whole. Surprisingly, in the past, it was sold in fractional ownership, where individuals would buy live parts of the cow.
According to reports from foreign media, one-third ownership of a four-and-a-half-year-old Nellore breed cow was auctioned off for 6.99 million Brazilian Rials, equivalent to 1.44 million US dollars (41.76 million Pakistani rupees). By extrapolating this figure, the complete price of this cow would be 4.3 million dollars (approximately one billion 24 crores in Pakistani rupees).
In the previous year, a half-share of a cow from the same breed was sold for $800,000, and this recent auction broke that record.
Originating from Nellore in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, this particular breed of cow has gained prominence in Brazil and is now known as the Nellore breed. It has become one of the most significant cow breeds in the country. Surprisingly, out of the total cow population in Brazil, approximately 167 million cows are Nellore, accounting for 80% of the country’s total.
Given the vast number of cow breeds worldwide, what sets this extraordinary cow apart? According to the esteemed “Oklahoma State University” in the United States, the Nellore breed is recognized by its distinct characteristics. These include a radiant white coat and a prominent hump over its shoulders. These distinguishing features make it easily identifiable.
Among the various traits of this cow, one stands out as particularly noteworthy: its inherent resistance to high temperatures. Additionally, its loose and hanging skin, along with sweat glands that are 30 percent larger than those found in other European breeds, contribute to its ability to withstand heat.
Furthermore, this breed displays remarkable adaptability, thriving in challenging environments and subsisting on low-quality fodder. Reproduction comes naturally to these cows, and their thick-textured skin provides effective protection against various infections. The robustness of their skin makes it arduous for blood-sucking insects to penetrate.
The Nellore cow not only possesses desirable traits but also offers nutritionally rich meat. It is precisely due to these remarkable characteristics that the price of Nellore cows reaches significant heights. Moreover, these traits can be further enhanced through artificial means.
