India released more water in Sutlej river, alert issued

Lahore: Additional water has been discharged by India from Ferozepur into the Sutlej River, and it is expected to reach Ganda Singh Kasur in Pakistan within a few hours.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning following India’s release of more water from Ferozepur into the Sutlej River.

Furthermore, India has released a volume of 73,418 cusecs of water into the Sutlej River from Ferozepur. This water is anticipated to enter Pakistan at Ganda Singh Kasur in a matter of hours.

Nabil Javed, the Relief Commissioner of Punjab, has instructed the Deputy Commissioners of Kasur, Okara, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, and Wahari to make necessary preparations in advance.

Nabil Javed emphasized the need for the emergency control room staff and Rescue 1122 teams to remain vigilant at all times. It is crucial for all relevant departments to provide the latest updates to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

A significant volume of water exceeding 200,000 cusecs has been discharged by India into the Sutlej River. This water is expected to enter Pakistan at Ganda Singh Kasur within a few hours.

In addition, the water level at Shahdara in the Ravi River has risen further, while there is a low-level flood occurring at Kadirabad in the Chenab River.

Previously, the PDMA Punjab Spokesperson, Panchash Chaudhary, reported that India initially released water at the dam site in the Ravi River, followed by an inflow of 61,000 cusecs from Karila into the Ravi River in Pakistan.
