America supports basic democratic principles in Pakistan

The United States has expressed its endorsement for democratic principles in Pakistan, specifically emphasizing its support for free media, freedom of expression, and freedom of assembly.

During a media briefing in Washington, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller addressed issues related to elections and terrorist incidents in Pakistan. In response to a journalist’s query about the transparency of elections in Pakistan, the Department of State spokesperson emphasized that the United States stands behind the fundamental democratic principles in the country. These principles include ensuring a free media, allowing freedom of expression, and facilitating freedom of assembly.

Matthew Miller further emphasized that these democratic principles serve as the cornerstone of fair and democratic elections, and the United States is committed to supporting the rule of law not only in Pakistan but also throughout the world.


The US State Department spokesperson conveyed a clear message to the Afghan people, stating that they do not want to express either confidence or lack of confidence in the Taliban. Instead, the focus will be on holding the Taliban accountable for their promises.

The spokesperson asserted that the United States will retain its capacity to conduct counter-terrorism operations in the region. Furthermore, they will safeguard the right to protect US interests, irrespective of any promises made by the Taliban. This highlights the US government’s commitment to maintaining security and pursuing its objectives in the region while being cautious and vigilant regarding the Taliban’s actions and assurances.
