According to a statement from the K-Electric spokesperson, the employees were engaged in dismantling illegal electricity connections, known as “kundas,” in Sector 10/1 of Surjani Town when unknown assailants fired at them.

Fortunately, all the employees escaped unharmed from the shooting incident due to timely precautionary measures. The spokesperson noted that the “kunda mafia” was responsible for pilfering more than 30,000 units of electricity.

The company filed a First Investigation Report (FIR) with the local police station and named nine individuals as suspects. Earlier in the same month, a member of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) union council was fatally shot during a dispute over illegal electricity connections in Sector 4C of Surjani Town in Karachi.

The victim, identified as Mohammad Habib, served as a ward councillor for JI. Following the incident, a substantial police presence arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation.

Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, the JI Karachi President, alleged that Habib had been attending a meeting after being informed about an unauthorized electricity connection when he was shot and killed. Rehman further claimed that the “Kunda mafia” had the support of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

The JI Karachi leader called upon the Inspector General of Police to take notice of the situation, apprehend the culprits and their backers, and demanded that authorities file an FIR for the killing or conduct a proper medical examination of the victim’s body, warning of protests if these actions were not taken.
