Pakistan Supreme Court Reserves Decision on Military Trials for Civilian Rioters

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has reserved its decision on petitions challenging the military trials of civilians involved in riots that occurred on May 9. The Attorney General of Pakistan argued that military courts were necessary to try terrorists and that the accused would be treated as per the procedures of a criminal court.

The court hinted at issuing a short order on the petitions. The government also informed the court that military courts have started the trials of civilians.
