Federal Minister Shazia Marri has said that 33 million people have been affected by catastrophic floods in Pakistan this year due to climate change.

The announcement of the meeting of the 26th Socialist International Congress was issued in Madrid, Spain, in which Federal Minister and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Program Shazia Marri participated.

According to the statement, the title of the conference was ‘Addressing climate change, reducing its effects’, where Shazia Marri gave a briefing on the recent flood disasters in Pakistan and said that 650 thousand pregnant women and 4 million children were killed by the worst rains and floods.

The federal minister said that climate change poses the biggest threat to the planet and humans, recent rains and floods in Pakistan are fresh examples of the ravages of climate change.

Federal Minister Shazia Marri said that 90 districts of Pakistan were affected by rains and floods, Sindh and Balochistan were the worst affected.

She said that 33 million people were made homeless by floods in Pakistan, 1700 precious human lives were lost in the recent floods, and more than 40 billion dollars were lost to the Pakistani economy. Shazia Marri said that climate change is not only an environmental problem but it is also a huge threat to health, agriculture, livelihood, peace, security and the overall economy of the world.

She further said that the truth is that the future of our home earth depends on the issue of climate change.
