President Can Also Give Date of Elections, Chief Justice.

Islamabad: During the hearing of automatic notices on elections in Punjab, KP in the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice has said that the Parliament has clearly written in the Election Act that the President can also give the date of the elections.

On the occasion of the hearing, Justice Jamal Mando khail said that the governor will also give the date of the elections in his order, Justice Mansoor said that if the governor does not give the date, can the Election Commission hold elections automatically?

Barrister Ali Zafar said that the Election Commission is a constitutional body and it should have authority. Justice Muneeb Akhtar said that the constitution should be very clear.

The Chief Justice said that it is clearly written in the Election Act that the President can also give history, how can the insight of the Parliament be evaluated?

Barrister Ali Zafar said that the Election Commission has suggested the dates to the governors, the Election Commission should be ready for elections at all times.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar said that any assembly can be dissolved at any time.

Justice Muneeb Akhtar said that how can it be that elections are not held on the basis that there is no money.

Justice Mansoor said, “Isn’t it strange that the president gives the date with consultation, the governor with his will?” The governor must consult someone, if the governor announces the election in a week, what will the election commission do?

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah said that the Election Commission has to do all the work of the elections. Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar said that the schedule for the elections has been given, how much time will be required for which stage?

Later, the hearing of automatic notice on elections in Punjab, KP was adjourned till 9:30 am tomorrow.

It should be noted that the 9-member larger bench hearing the Supreme Court’s automatic notice case for elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has broken down, but the Supreme Court is hearing a 5-member bench.

Apart from Supreme Court Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi, Justice Atharmanullah and Justice Yahya Afridi have also excused themselves from hearing the case.
