Islamabad: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has banned channels from showing speeches and statements of Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan.
PEMRA has issued instructions to all satellite channels not to broadcast Imran Khan’s statement, conversation or speech live or recorded on the channels. They are spreading hatred against state institutions and officers.
In August last year, the government had imposed a ban on showing live speeches of chairman PTI, which was challenged by Imran Khan in the Islamabad High Court.
The High Court quashed PEMRA’s notification and remarked that TV channels are bound to stop telecasting prohibited content under the delay system.
The court said that Pemra is bound to follow the law in the light of Supreme Court’s directives, if prohibited content is aired, Pemra can take action against TV channels.
