Myanmar military disbands Aung San Suu Kyi’s party

The military junta government in Myanmar dissolved former Prime Minister Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy Party.

According to Myanmar’s state media, the decision was taken to dissolve the National League for Democracy after the military junta failed to re-register under new election laws.

State media said 63 parties had registered at the local or national level, with 40 automatically dissolved after failing to sign up by Tuesday’s deadline, according to state media.

It should be noted that in January of this year, before the new elections, the army asked political parties to re-register under a strict new electoral law and was given two months for this. However, the democratic parties opposed to the army say that These elections will be neither free nor fair.

The NLD had said it would not participate in such an illegal election led by the military.
