‘Un-Islamic’ marriage case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi ha been quashed by a district and sessions court in Islamabad. In an application submitted by Muhammad Hanif, the petitioner, it was stated that the complaint is being withdrawn due to technical reasons. The Judicial Magistrate Qudrat Ullah granted permission to withdraw the complaint under Section 248 Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and subsequently quashed the case.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi got married in February 2018 in Lahore. The wedding ceremony was a private affair with close relatives and friends present. The nikah was performed by Mufti Saeed in the presence of witnesses Awn Chaudhary and Zulfi Bukhari. It should be noted that Imran Khan has been previously married twice, first to Jemima Goldsmith, daughter of a British billionaire, and second to Reham Khan.
The case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi was filed by Muhammad Hanif, who alleged that Imran Khan had married Bushra Bibi while she was on iddat, a waiting period observed by women after the dissolution of a marriage. However, the statements of Mufti Muhammad Saeed and Awn Chaudhry, submitted as evidence, stated that the marriage was conducted during Bushra Bibi’s iddat. With the withdrawal of the complaint, the case has been officially dismissed.
