Ramiz Raja Slams Pakistan Team’s Asia Cup Loss

Ramiz Raja, the former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, did not mince words in his critique of the team’s performance following their defeat to India in the 2023 Asia Cup.

Raja specifically targeted Iftikhar Ahmed, suggesting that his career needed reevaluation due to struggles against spinners like Kuldeep Yadav, remarking that it had taken off late in his career.

He also criticized Pakistan’s batting style, labeling it one-dimensional and detrimental, especially in longer formats like Test and ODI cricket, where it gets exposed.

In addition, Raja had reservations about the bowlers’ effort and their communication with the captain, urging for a more aggressive approach with better field placements.

Raja also questioned the selection process, highlighting a potential lack of awareness regarding available talent.

These criticisms arose in the wake of Pakistan’s 10-wicket loss to India in the Asia Cup 2023, which has put their tournament prospects in jeopardy.

Raja’s comments are bound to elicit diverse reactions, with some agreeing with his assessment of the team’s issues, while others might deem his critique too harsh. However, it’s clear that Pakistan needs to make adjustments if they aim to succeed in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup.
