Islamabad: The Chairman of PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) has challenged the decisions of accountability courts in the 190 million pound corruption and Toshakhana (treasury) cases in the Islamabad High Court. He has appealed for bail until the final verdict on the challenge, regarding the decisions rejecting bail on non-appearance in the cases. The Chairman of PTI filed the challenge through Advocate Sardar Latif Khosa.
The application states that on August 5th, the Chairman of PTI was sentenced in the Toshakhana military land case and arrested, with a transfer to jail on the same day. On August 10th, the accountability courts rejected bail applications in two cases for the Chairman of PTI based on non-appearance.
The application argues that the accountability courts’ decisions to reject bail on non-appearance were made while the Chairman of PTI was in jail, and he did not have the option to appear in court.
Imran Khan has filed a plea through his lawyer to declare the accountability court’s August 10th decisions null and void and provide interim bail until a decision is made on the applications.
The Deputy Registrar’s office has raised objections to the applications against rejecting bail due to non-compliance by the Chairman of PTI. Both applications have been scheduled for a full hearing with a division bench comprising Chief Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Babar Sattar.
