The Dolphin Squad, a unit of the Lahore Police, has successfully captured two members of an inter-district fraudulent gang that specialized in deceiving innocent citizens through a clever combination of spiritual healing and trickery.
Originating from Faisalabad, these individuals had been operating in various cities, including Lahore, using a tactic that involved enticing victims into entrusting their money, only to vanish without a trace.
The apprehended culprits, known as Mazhar and Umair, were arrested on Wednesday in Lahore’s Factory Area. Their arrest has exposed a troubling trend that exploits vulnerable individuals, promising to double their money through mystical means. The gang’s devious strategy involved targeting people in distress, gaining their confidence, and offering to multiply their money using alleged spiritual abilities.
Once they had ensnared a victim, they would instruct them to place their money and belongings on the ground, turn their backs, recite specific holy verses, and walk forward, all under the pretense that it was a necessary ritual for money multiplication. In reality, this was a ruse to facilitate their escape with the ill-gotten gains.
The most recent incident leading to the gang’s arrest occurred when three students ran out of petrol on Walton Road while on their way to deposit their fees. The suspects, who were in a nearby car, engaged in conversation with the stranded students.
Recognizing the students’ predicament, the fraudsters offered a solution and asked them to place their valuables in front of them with their backs turned, then walk forward.
However, when a third student arrived at the scene, the suspects made the same request. This time, one of the students resisted and refused to comply with their demands. In response, one of the suspects issued a chilling threat, claiming he could use his supposed spiritual powers to set the defiant student on fire and reduce him to ashes.
Undeterred by the threat, the brave student stood his ground. In retaliation, the suspects attempted to flee by speeding away in their car, but the determined student clung to the vehicle. One of the suspects even brandished a firearm in an effort to intimidate him.
Fortunately, a vigilant Dolphin Squad team was nearby and promptly intervened, leading to the arrest of Mazhar and Umair. A third suspect managed to escape, but law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing his capture.
The arrested suspects have been handed over to the Factory Area police for further legal proceedings. The police are urging citizens to remain cautious and vigilant, especially when approached by individuals who promise mystical solutions that appear too good to be true.
