Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan was granted permission by the court overseeing the cypher case to engage in a telephone conversation with his sons, Qasim and Suleiman. The court directed the superintendent of Adiala jail in Rawalpindi to facilitate this communication using WhatsApp.
During today’s proceedings, Special Court Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain considered a petition requesting instructions to jail officials for allowing the PTI chief to contact his sons. Imran’s legal counsel, Sheraz Ahmed Ranjha, was present in court.
The judge, acknowledging the importance of addressing the family’s concerns, approved the phone call to “family members.” He stated that the family’s distress should not be disregarded.
Furthermore, Imran’s attorney requested the court’s assistance in providing a bicycle for Imran’s well-being. In response, the judge expressed concern about the potential misuse of the bicycle and emphasized the paramount importance of the under-trial prisoner’s security. The judge then committed to issuing orders for the provision of a bicycle.
Regarding the issue of home-cooked meals for the PTI chairman, the judge declined the request, citing concerns about assigning responsibility. He noted that if meals were prepared within the prison, jail officials would be accountable.
The cypher case revolves around a document presented by Imran, who was the prime minister at the time, during a public rally in March the previous year. He claimed it as evidence of a foreign conspiracy behind the no-confidence motion he faced, which ultimately led to the downfall of his government a few weeks later.
