Pakistan Requests to Join BRICS for International Cooperation and Multilateralism

Pakistan has made a formal request to join BRICS, an important group of developing countries, according to the Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch. The decision to join BRICS was influenced by the related developments in Johannesburg. By becoming a member of BRICS, Pakistan aims to play a significant role in advancing international cooperation and promoting inclusive multilateralism. It is hoped that BRICS will consider Pakistan’s request in line with its commitment to inclusive multilateralism.

Pakistan shares friendly ties with most BRICS members and the recently invited group of countries. The country has been a strong supporter of multilateralism and is actively involved in various multilateral organizations. Pakistan has played a crucial role in global peace and development.

During the news briefing, the spokesperson also addressed other recent developments. She condemned the conspiracy foiled by the United States to assassinate a Sikh leader, emphasizing that India’s state-sponsored terrorism, subversion, and espionage pose ongoing threats to Pakistan. She criticized India’s irresponsible conduct, which violates international laws.

The spokesperson expressed concern over the banning of Halal Food in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, stating that it reflects increasing Islamophobia in India and undermines the rights and freedoms of Muslims.

With regards to security, Pakistan remains vigilant about the terror threats emanating from Afghanistan, urging the Afghan authorities to take immediate action against terrorist entities to ensure regional stability.

Lastly, Pakistan supports the call for an international peace conference on the Palestinian question. The country believes that a two-state solution, as outlined in relevant UN resolutions, is essential for peace in the region. Pakistan strongly advocates for the establishment of a viable, sovereign, and geographically-contiguous Palestinian state, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
