Buenos Aires: Argentina’s Vice President Cristina Fernandez Kirchner was sentenced to 6 years in prison after being disqualified for life for corruption.
According to foreign media, an Argentine court has sentenced Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner to six years in prison for corruption, a decision that has shaken the country.
Fernandez, 69, was found guilty of ‘fraudulent administration’ for awarding public works contracts to a friend, a three-judge panel convicted Cristina.
Cristina Fernandez embezzled millions of dollars during her presidency, the court said, with the vice president also accused of taking bribes on road projects.
The vice president is said to be unlikely to serve jail time despite being sentenced, with Christina enjoying some immunity due to her government duties and expected to begin a lengthy appeals process.

Christina is also banned from public office for life, but will continue in her role as vice president while the case plays out in higher courts. It should be noted that the prosecution had demanded a 12-year prison sentence.
According to the report of the Associated Press News Agency, Christina said after the verdict that the charges against her were of a political nature, she also described herself as a victim of a “judicial mafia”. Before this verdict, he had also accused the prosecution of lying and defamation.
It should be noted that this is the first time that a vice president has been convicted of a crime while in office in Argentina.
