After the restoration of diplomatic relations, the embassy of Iran in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, has been opened after a long period of 7 years.
According to Arab News, restoring diplomatic activities under the agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the Iranian technical delegation arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday afternoon, where they were welcomed by the Saudi authorities a few hours after their arrival at the Iranian embassy in Riyadh. The doors were opened.
In this regard, the spokesman of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nasir Kanani, said that the Iranian delegation will also take necessary steps for the activities of Iran’s representative in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in addition to opening the embassy in Riyadh and the consulate in Jeddah.
The opening of the embassies is being hailed as an important development after the restoration of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia brokered by China in March.
It should be noted that the foreign ministers of the two countries met in China this month. While last week, a Saudi technical delegation met the Iranian Chief of Protocol in Tehran, who will leave for Mashhad on Thursday.
Along with increasing ties between the two countries, Saudi Arabia is also negotiating with the Iranian-backed Houthi militia in Yemen to end the 9-year conflict. Analysts say that with the restoration of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran, the process of restoring peace in Yemen has been revived once again.
According to the report, Saudi Ambassador Mohammad Al-Jaber is in the Houthi-held Yemeni capital, Sana’a, where he is trying to consolidate the current ceasefire and seek a comprehensive political solution with the Houthis’ legitimate government in Yemen. The first successful development resulting from the negotiations is an agreement to exchange 900 prisoners, which will begin to be implemented on Friday.
